Here's a fast little trick I learned a while back. Suppose you want to shop on Craigslist for a particular item, but you don't want to spend the time constantly having to search for the newest posts. Or, you are waiting for a particular item to show up on Craigslist.
Any easy way to keep track of this is to use your Google Reader. You can subscribe to a search on Craigslist just as easy as you subscribe to a blog. Here's how you do it.
#1. Go to the craigslist website and search for the item you want. For example, if you live in the Tacoma Seattle area, you would go here, and type the title of the item you are looking for in the search field. I am looking for a bike trailer, so I typed in "bike trailer" without the quotation marks.
#2. Once the search page comes up with all of the results, scroll to the bottom of the screen. You will find an icon that is orange and says "RSS"
#3. Click on the RSS icon, which will take you to the Google subscribe page. Its that easy. Now, anytime someone posts an item that matches your search description, it will show up in your Google Reader. Pretty sweet eh?
One other thing, I am trying out the new Google App called "Google Talk, Labs Edition". Its pretty cool. It give you popups when you get new email, a new alert, or someone is trying to chat with you. I guess it also integrates with your Google calendar and will give you alerts when items on your calendar are due. I haven't tried that feature yet, but it sounds like a heaven sent for those of us who wish our calendars would talk to us. Here is a link if you want to try it out. http://www.google.com/talk/labsedition/
